Notes on Dana's Two Years Before the Mast

The first edition has a catalog starting on page 425. The second edition has an extra chapter, "Concluding Chapter."

The first book has a Fall 1944 list with a 1945 copyright date ("Copyright, 1945, by Random House, Inc.") but the dust jacket has a Spring 1945 list. (See below for details.) The DJ for the first printing is based on a movie poster. (Click here to see the poster.)

The earliest date for the second edition which includes "Concluding Chapter" is in doubt, but it's sometime between Spring 1947 and Spring 1953.
