Notes on Forester's The African Queen The Modern Library edition of Forester's The African Queen was the first in the United States to print the complete text as it originally appeared in England, as the author intended it. That Forester preferred the Modern Library version is clear from the introduction. In an e-Mail to the ML mailing list, constant ModLib contributor Barry Neavill points out that it appears "the last *four* chapters were omitted from the Little, Brown edition and restored in the ML edition (pp. 276-308)! Even Forester seems to have been uncertain about how many chapters Little, Brown omitted -- he says two chapters were omitted in his foreword to the ML edition." So the Modern Library edition isn't the first American edition, but it's the first complete American edition.
